Karen Borrmann (Nidan - 2nd Dan blackbelt, Dojo Leader)
Karen began practicing karate at the age of 20 in Germany, and joined Canada Shotokan in 2003 at Montreal Shotokan Dojo. In 2004, she started teaching beginner classes at Montreal Shotokan, as well as attending classes at both Montreal Shotokan and Little Burgundy Dojos. Karen was awarded the rank of Shodan (1st degree black belt) in 2006, and Nidan (2nd degree black belt) in 2013, and was the recipient of the SKA Canada East member of the year award in 2012. In recent years, Karen has regularly entered and placed in both regional and international tournaments.
Karen has two energetic elementary school aged children, and one very understanding husband, who appreciates the value that karate brings to his family's life.
Alex De Vergori (Shodan - 1st Dan black belt)
Alex has been practising Shotokan Karate for over 20 years. He started at university in England in 1993, continuing his training when he moved to Canada in 2006. Alex trained with Simon Inwood at the Montreal Shotokan dojo, going on to teach beginner classes there. Alex achieved his Shodan (Black Belt) in 2009 at the Summer Special Training in Lennoxville.
Alex is a proud father of two boys. At ages 4 and 6 they already know how to exhaust a black belt.
