"The aim of Karate lies not in victory or defeat,
but in the perfection of the characters of its participants"
- Master Gichin Funakoshi
Welcome to Lakeshore Shotokan Karate!
We are a karate club in the West Island of Montreal, with instructors that have been studying, practising, competing and teaching Karate for many years.
We teach an authentic, traditional style of Shotokan Karate in a friendly and family-oriented environment.
Benefits of Karate for Kids (and Adults!)
Karate offers a unique way to achieve physical and mental improvement. Karate often introduces children to the concepts of respect, discipline and self-confidence while at the same time teaching important self-defence techniques.
At Lakeshore Shotokan students can achieve all the great benefits listed above while having fun at the same time!
Lakeshore Shotokan is a not-for-profit, non-commercial organisation. Instructors volunteer their time because they are passionate about Shotokan and the benefits it brings to participants.
Shotokan uses three main building blocks of Karate: Kihon (foundations), Kata (forms) and Kumite (sparring).
Kids Classes are for children aged 7+ and their parents (parents practice for free!). We train at St John the Baptist Church (see Location) every Friday 5pm.
Adult classes (moderate to intense level of physical activity) are at The Red Barn, Baie d'Urfe (see Location) on Saturdays 8am-9.30am.
